There is only one you in this universe. Only one unique expression of you. Have you ever wondered why you re here? What if the purpose of human incarnation is as Malima Somé, an African Shaman, suggests, is to bring our unique gifts into the world. We all have something to offer those around us, our families and friend, our community, the world even. What is your gift, your purpose? What is it that set your soul on fire? Perhaps you're already doing it in your career, or your hobby. Maybe it's painting, creating with your hands, or stringing beautiful words together in song or as simple as caring for your loved ones. As we are growing up, our creativity is often stifled, pushed so deep inside that we forget what makes our heart sing. We are encouraged to "fit in", to hide what makes us different. If we force ourselves into the mold of what we think we should be, the mold breaks, or worse, we do. Set your spirit free by doing what you love, and if you haven't found that yet, be curious and explore, get quiet and listen. Allow yourself to fall into alignment with your purpose and see what can happen. When we are swimming with the flow, we just may experience a deep sense of freedom, peace and joy. So I ask again, what is your gift?
As we continue to navigate the uncertainty of the times during the Covid-19 pandemic, it is so important for us to remember to take to our mats and tap into the peace of yoga. Yoga is a wonderful practice at anytime of our life, but it is truly necessary during times of stress. (Yoga is not just the asana or poses, it is the unification of body, breath and mind, so anything you do with complete awareness is yoga!) It offers us the chance to step away from the outside world and shift inward, to slow down and to use our inner resources to renew and restore. As we slowly watch the earth awaken after a long winter sleep, we can see the life that is emerging. The buds are getting ready to burst open and bring nourishment to the plants that they grow on. The birds are building nests to provide safe homes for the new life that will soon inhabit them. Life all around. This happens because of the resting period, the yin season of winter. Just as the earth needs time to restore itself, so do we. What do you do to restore? Maybe for you it is raking up the last of the fall leaves, or taking along walk or a luxurious bath. Whatever helps you to feel rested and at peace, make time for that, so that when you are ready to face the world again, you are stronger and more resilient, you are ready for to watch life unfold.
